Which Broadway shows are closing soon?

Six Broadway productions currently have an announced final performance in the next six months: Titaníque, 860, SIX, Stranger Things: The First Shadow, & Juliet, and Now You See Me Live. Announced closings are usually confirmed four to twelve weeks ahead, so this list changes often and a show without a date here can still post one next week.

Broadway closing dates are announcements, not schedules. A producer posts a closing notice when the forward booking position stops supporting the weekly running cost, which is typically four to twelve weeks before the final performance — sometimes far less. That is why this list is dated, and why it is worth checking again before you book.

Why do so many shows close in the first week of January?

Three of the six below close on 3 January 2027, and that is not a coincidence.

The weeks around Christmas and New Year are the most profitable of the Broadway year by a wide margin. A production that is struggling in October will frequently hold on through the holidays to bank those grosses, then close immediately afterwards, when January and February reliably deliver the worst attendance of the year.

The first week of January is therefore the single most common closing week on Broadway. A show announcing a January closing in November is not necessarily in trouble — it may simply have decided the holiday run is the last profitable stretch available to it.

What counts as “closing” here

A limited engagement that reaches its advertised final performance has not failed; it has finished. Two of the entries below — 860 and Now You See Me Live — were sold as limited runs from the start. Titaníque, SIX, Stranger Things, and & Juliet are open-ended commercial runs coming to an end.

Both belong on a list of what is leaving, because from a ticket buyer’s position the distinction does not change anything: after that date, you cannot see it.

How long is a Broadway run supposed to last?

Shorter than most people assume. Across every Broadway production that opened since 2010 and has now closed, the median run is under three months — so the shows below that lasted years are the outliers, not the standard.

How we chose

Broadway productions in the Theatreview catalog with a publicly announced final performance between 16 September 2026 and 31 March 2027. One-night concerts and benefit performances are excluded — they are limited bookings rather than runs coming to an end, and including them would pad the list with shows that were never going to stay. Productions still running with no announced closing date are not listed, however likely a closing may look.

Titaníque

Closes 20 September 2026 at the St. James Theatre after transferring from off-Broadway, where it ran for years. The Broadway run will have lasted about five months from opening night — almost exactly the Broadway median.

Closes 2 January 2027 at the Imperial Theatre. Billy Crystal's solo play, written after the wildfire that destroyed his family home, was always announced as a limited engagement rather than an open run.

SIX: The Musical

Closes 3 January 2027 at the Lena Horne Theatre, more than five years after opening night — and nearly seven after its first preview, which was cut short by the 2020 shutdown the night before it was due to open.

Stranger Things: The First Shadow

Closes 3 January 2027 at the Marquis Theatre after roughly twenty months, having transferred from the West End. A prequel play rather than a musical, which makes its run length unusual for a Broadway house of that size.

& Juliet

Musical · 2019

Closes 3 January 2027 at the Stephen Sondheim Theatre after more than four years — comfortably inside the top few percent of Broadway runs by length.

Now You See Me Live

Closes 3 January 2027 at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre. A stage illusion show booked as a holiday-season limited engagement of under two months, which is a common use of a Broadway house between tenants.
