Wicked is a landmark Broadway musical that reimagines the land of Oz long before Dorothy dropped in, telling the untold story of the unlikely friendship between Elphaba, the future Wicked Witch of the West, and Glinda, the Good Witch. Adapted from Gregory Maguire's bestselling 1995 novel with a score by Stephen Schwartz and book by Winnie Holzman, the show has become one of the longest-running and highest-grossing blockbusters in theatre history since its 2003 debut. The narrative follows Elphaba, a fiery, misunderstood young woman born with emerald-green skin, and Glinda, an ambitious and wildly popular blonde, as they meet as roommates at Shiz University. Despite their stark personality clashes and differing worldviews, they forge a deep connection that is tested by rivalries, political corruption in Oz, and their contrasting choices when confronted with the Wizard's deceitful regime. Featuring an iconic score that includes showcase anthems like 'Defying Gravity', 'Popular', and 'For Good', Wicked combines spectacle with rich themes of female friendship, moral ambiguity, and prejudice. Its massive global appeal has spawned record-breaking West End productions, international tours, and a major two-part feature film adaptation.
